Hydration and warmth: Important tips for babies in summer

During the hot summer months, keeping your baby well hydrated and cool is crucial. Here are some important tips to ensure your little one stays comfortable and healthy during the heat.

1. Hydration is key

Babies can dehydrate quickly, especially in hot weather. Make sure they get enough fluids.

  • Breastfeed or bottle feed: Breastfeed or bottle feed regularly. If your baby is already eating solid food, offer extra water.
  • Signs of dehydration: Watch for signs such as fewer wet diapers, dry mouth, and crying without tears.

2. Light and breathable clothing

Choose clothing that helps regulate your baby's body temperature.

  • Clothing choices: Use light, breathable fabrics such as cotton. Dress your baby in layers that are easy to put on and take off.

3. Avoid the hottest hours

Try to plan outdoor activities outside the hottest hours of the day, between 11 am and 3 pm.

  • Staying Inside: Find shady spots or stay inside during peak sun hours.

Overheating can be dangerous for babies. Watch for the following signs.

  • Symptoms of overheating: Redness, rapid breathing, lethargy, and increased body temperature. Consult a doctor if you suspect your baby is overheated.
